Overview
This quest was colloquially known as xp levers, and was only available on Darktide. It was announced in January 2005, introduced in February 2005, and then removed in June 2005.
There are four versions of this quest. See:
- Mausoleum of Bitterness Quest (20-49)
- Mausoleum of Anger Quest (40-69)
- Mausoleum of Cruelty Quest (60-89)
- Mausoleum of Slaughter Quest (80-109)
In addition to the level requirements, this quest requires that you have the Player Killer status.
Walkthrough & Notes
- Run to the Gatekeeper of Bitterness. Known locations for this gatekeeper are:
- 2.8N, 97.1E, Northeast of Oolutanga’s Refuge.
- 29.5S, 59.3E, South of Sawato.
- 23.7S, 26.3E, Northwest of Uziz.
- Speak to the Gatekeeper to be teleported into the Mausoleum of Bitterness.
- Make your way to the Pillar of Bitterness and interact with it. This will flag you to use the Effigy for 30 minutes.
- Make your way to the Effigy of Bitterness and interact with it. As long as you are flagged, you may use the Effigy every 5 minutes for a reward.
- If you exceed the level restrictions of the dungeon while inside and attempt to use the Pillar or Effigy again, it will dispel your protections, cast Tusker's Gift on you, and debuff your jump skill. Then it will teleport you to high in the air at 41.3S, 52.5E, Battlefield of Ayn Tayan, where you will fall to your death.

- If NPK
- Gatekeeper of Bitterness tells you, "The Gate does not open for those who carry the temporary protection of the Light."
- If PK, too high or too low level
- Gatekeeper of Bitterness tells you, "The Gate does not open for those who seek powers above or below their station."
- If PK, correct level
- Gatekeeper of Bitterness tells you, "The Gate opens for the worthy supplicant."
- You have been teleported.
Pillar of Bitterness
- If correct level
- You touch the Pillar, infusing some of its darkness into your self.
- Pillar of Bitterness tells you, "You have 30 minutes to touch the associated Effigy, elsewhere in this Mausoleum."
- If too high level, too low level, or NPK
- Pillar of Bitterness tells you, "You are unworthy to be in this Mausoleum!"
- Pillar of Bitterness cast Tusker's Gift on you
- You have been teleported.
Effigy of Bitterness
- If not flagged
- Effigy of Bitterness tells you, "You must infuse your soul with the darkness of the Pillar and return within 30 minutes."
- If flagged
- Effigy of Bitterness tells you, "We recognize the darkness in your soul and we will grant you strength."
- Repeat
- Effigy of Bitterness tells you, "You may only be empowered by the Effigy once every 5 minutes."
- If too high level, too low level, or NPK
- Effigy of Bitterness tells you, "You are unworthy to be in this Mausoleum!"
- Effigy of Bitterness cast Tusker's Gift on you
- You have been teleported.
