Overview

Upgrade your Seasoned Explorer equipment with the power of the Blackfire stone.

In order to complete this quest, you will need:

Seasoned Explorer equipment (Gold Letter rewards) from the Exploration Society Letters quest.
A Smelting Pot, sold by numerous archmages.
Diamond Powder, dropped by Diamond Golems and Diamond Lords.
The ability to reach the end of the Abyssal Olthoi Chasm, the 100+ dungeon in the Olthoi Chasm Quest.
The Black Fire Atlan Stone from the Lady Aerfalle Quest, crafted from the Black Boulder dropped by the Behemoth of Tenkarrdun.

Gruff the Listener provides some optional clues for this quest.

Walkthrough & Notes

Use a Smelting Pot on Diamond Powder to create the Enhanced Smelting Pot (no check).
Travel to the end of the Abyssal Olthoi Chasm. In the final large room, prior to the small hall with the last note, is an Acidic Elemental Pool.
Use the Enhancened Smelting Pot on the Acidic Elemental Pool to create the Smelting Pot of Acid. This item has a 12 hour lifespan.
Use the Black Fire Atlan Stone on the Smelting Pot of Acid to create the Smelting Pot of Blackfire Acid. This item has a 1 hour lifespan.
Use the Smelting Pot of Blackfire Acid on each Seasoned Explorer item you wish to enhance. The item has no use limits, but it will be destroyed in 1 hour. The resulting Blackfire Seasoned Explorer items are attuned and bonded, and may not be transferred to other characters.

You give Gruff the Listener Ale.

It coats the pot with the thing, or is that, dips the thing in the pool and then adds it to the first thing....Hungry...Soooooo Hungry!"

You give Gruff the Listener Cider.

Gruff the Listener tells you, "Oh yeah...! My favourite apple by-product. Not as good as Honeyed Meads, Winter Lager, or Spiced Bur Wine made in a Smelting Pot with a dash or two of powdered Ruuk mind you, but tasty nonetheless. What are you looking at Isparian? Go before I grind your bones to make my bread."

You give Gruff the Listener Coffee.

Gruff the Listener tells you, "Ooo oo aaa - Hearthseeker Armor? What about it? Oooh how do you get it? More CAKE! Is there a recipe? I said MORE CAKE! Ingrate!"

You give Gruff the Listener Palm Wine.

Gruff the Listener tells you, "You adventurers are my kind of scum, fearless and inventive. You'll need a diamond...or is that something from a diamond...dust perhaps. I can't think with this hunger."

Creating Enhanced Smelting Pot

You pour the Diamond Powder into the Smelting Pot and swirl it around before emptying it onto the ground you now have a Enhanced Smelting Pot

Creating Smelting Pot of Acid

You scoop the Enhanced Smelting Pot into the Acid Pool you now have a full Smelting Pot of Acid

Creating Smelting Pot of Blackfire Acid

You gently drop the Black Fire Atlan Stone in the Smelting Pot of Acid and watch it dissolve and turn black.

Upgrading an item

You pour the Pot of Blackfire Acid onto your Seasoned Explorer [item] it begins to smoke and blacken, you now have a Blackfire Seasoned Explorer [item]
