1. Talk to Akamine Jiro in Wai Jhou to obtain a Field Theodolite and become flagged to enter Black Spawn Den (Uber).
2. Enter, and progress through, the Black Spawn Den (Uber) at 60.0S, 57.7W. (GUIDE NEEDED)

Approaching Akamine Jiro after To Seek Hearth quest completed

Akamine Jiro tells you, “Welcome, seeker. Ma’whar tells me that you are ready to begin your path of sacrifice. I must warn you, this path will not be easy and you will need friends to see it to its end. ”

Akamine Jiro tells you, “One month ago, our scout leader, Arbrim the Bold, organized an expedition to inspect the sibling leyline found beneath a Black Spawn Den, previously hidden in the plains. When he did not return by foot or by lifestone, we formed a rescue party to find him. We were not prepared for what we found in that dungeon; Tusker fists and Virindi blades that no worldly platemail could withstand. In our hasty retreat I managed to find this glowing shard of pyreal on the remains of one particularly large Virindi. It appears that the Virindi have outpaced our intentions and are using the leylines to power their own plans. ”

Akamine Jiro tells you, “Travel to the portal at < coordinates >. Burrow as deeply as you can into their den and then report back on what the Virindi are up to and what has happened to Arbrim. If you can reach the leyline, take a reading of the mana field from the device we have installed. Above all else, we need to understand how the Virindi have corrupted the power source we need to return home.

Akamine Jiro tells you, "If you need supplies, speak with our Arcanum Agents in Eastham - they will make sure you have what you need. Make haste seeker, our enemy grows stronger even as we speak."

The Gatekeeper

As (player) approaches the entrance gate, you hear a voice in the back of your mind, "Fleshlings, at our door? A poor decision. Prepare to meet your fate."

A shrieking sound pulses from the core of the falling Virindi as it collapses into its center, and it whispers in your mind, "Progress will not be interrupted, flesh puppet."

The Quartermaster

The Quartermaster says, “How surprising that our paths should cross after the source has already been conquered.”

The Virindi's cloak seems to boil, hissing as it collapses. Its thoughts blaze in your mind: "You flesh puppets misunderstand your purpose here. You are the catalyst, not the cure.”

The Alchemist

A shrieking voice appears in the back of your mind, “Are you here to finish or begin our work?”

The voice continues, “How unfortunate, but not unexpected.”

The voice continues, “A grave mistake… My creations will butcher you for this..”

The Alchemist says, “Now we come to the heart of it. We look forward to claiming the depths of your mind as our own!”

The Alchemist says, “Feast on their flesh, my creation!”

The Virindi's cloak collapses in a billowing heap and a gust of stale air washes over you. As it dies, the creature shrieks in your mind, "Progress proceeds along many paths..."

The Overseer

The Overseer says, "Do you understand that we have led you to this moment, like an animal to the slaughterhouse?"

The Overseer says, "The way you move your face is quite fascinating, fleshling."

The Overseer says, " Perhaps we should wear your face as you have worn ours."

A flash of blue light escapes as The Overseer’s mask is broken in two. Softly spoken words tug at the edges of your mind, “The only constant is existence. Our paths are endlessly bound to one another.”

Handing Arbrim's Note to Akamine Jiro

Akamine Jiro tells you, "If what you have given me is truly a child of Arbim’s pen, then there is no doubt that he is one of the Brothers. And if you speak true that he could not be found in that dungeon, then we must believe that he has achieved the purpose of his sacrifice. Speak of this to no one - it is not for us to interfere with the Brothers’ plans."

Akamine Jiro tells you, "I would urge you to return to the Black Spawn Den tomorrow and restart your search so that we may be certain of Arbrim’s fate. In the meantime, I will reflect on what you have brought me and write to our Eastham delegation to inform them of what you have learned of our foes."

Akamine Jiro tells you, "As a thank you for your service, take this cloak and talisman that Arbrim had left behind. Arbrim was always so picky about the style of his cloaks...I suspect that he won’t be needing this one anytime soon. Keep your legs fresh, seeker. I believe that sacrifices may soon be requested from you at the other leyline sites."

Akamine Jiro tells you, "I’m afraid that anything to do with the mana siphon is beyond my understanding. Bring it to Ulewinna, I’m sure that she will know what to do with it."

Akamine Jiro tells you, "A reading from the Black Spawn Den Leyline? Put it on my table so that I can inventory it immediately. If you would, please use the charcoal to inscribe PY24L5S1 on the metal bearings."

Akamine Jiro tells you, "Hmmm...these theodolite readings are quite strange. We’ve previously established that the leyline mana fields wax and wane at roughly 3 periods per second and at a phase unique from the other two siblings. According to these readings...the Wai Jhou leyline is oscillating at a speed nearly 100 times its normal frequency."

Akamine Jiro tells you, "While this might explain why the leyline is shedding so much mana, I’m at a loss for how this could be happening. The only other time I’ve ever seen something like this was when Aliester and I measured mana consumption from actively transporting portals. Portals can consume mana at very high frequencies, but only when bodies are in the process of passing through them. We never observed activity that lasted this long, however. Strange as it may sound, the only logical conclusion I can come to is that the mana signature you’ve brought me reflects a very powerful, yet unrecognizable, form of portal magic."

Akamine Jiro tells you, "I’ll need more data to be able to draw any firmer conclusions. If you can, please bring me another reading from this leyline. In the meantime, I will continue to consider what you have brought me. Before you go, please accept this as a token of my gratitude."

Handing Black Spawn Virindi Jewels to Ulewinna

Akamine Jiro tells you, "How fascinating - look at how the mana has sealed quite firmly into the cracks of the jewel. No worry, the extraction remains simple enough. First, A quick wash in aetherium solution, scented with hyssop to occlude the vapors of course and...the mana is released from the jewel. Now the extract is submerged in liquid pyreal to stabilize the mana into form and, voila, we are left with a highly efficient mana battery."

Akamine Jiro tells you, "A perfect looking specimen you might think! But wait, see how the mana is already beginning to corrode the pyreal here and here? If the refiner is not yet overheated, you should refine this now before any further decay occurs. Otherwise, speak with Rimgar to ensure proper compensation for the unrefined sample"

Akamine Jiro tells you, “Absolutely incredible! Put that under my lens quickly! Oh my, the sheer complexity of the mana calcification is exquisite...this Virindi essence and the mana have wound so tightly that they have become some sort of braid! I fear stock aetherium solution will not be sufficient to catalyze the reaction needed to release the mana. But maybe a more concentrated solution? If you would, please hand me that alembic. We will need it to stabilize the solvent if we are to add more aetheria. There, the solution seems stable but there is only way to know for sure....”

Akamine Jiro tells you, "My goodness, the yield is astounding. Sora! Bring me at least three more pyreal tanks to capture all this mana!"

Akamine Jiro tells you, "There, the extraction is complete. If the refiner is not yet over heated, I would purify these samples with all haste. Once done, speak with Sora. She will provide you with payment for the yield."

Akamine Jiro tells you, "You said you got this off of the Virindi leader? That is fascinating...and troubling. The pyreal itself is considerably more dense than anything we are using. If my suspicions about this are correct, their mana harvesting abilities are at the very least 2-3 times more efficient than our own. Who knows what type of terrible experimental magic can be powered by such a battery?"

Akamine Jiro tells you, "If you will allow me, I would like to study this specimen at once. A deeper understanding of this Virindi construct will undoubtedly improve our own mana extraction and storage."

Akamine Jiro tells you, "Before you make a decision, however, I must ask: have you determined if your weapon reacts to this item? The other specimens we have recovered from the Virindi have shown strong reactivity to their weapons - I suspect something similar, and perhaps even more powerful, might occur with this pyreal shard."

Agreeing to give Blazing Pyreal Shard to Ulewinna

Akamine Jiro tells you, "You made an invaluable contribution to the cause today, seeker. I believe we may be much, much closer to returning home than we’ve ever been. Now, if you would, please excuse me while I set to determining this shard’s chemical composition."

Black Spawn Weapon Upgrades

You force the Obliterators heart into the jagged crystals of the <weapon>. Its blood envelopes the blade, radiating with power!

You place the shard inside the heart of the tusker. The <weapon> trembles momentarily, then returns to your control.

As you place the pyreal shard, the heart begins to pulse and an overwhelming feeling of power and dread washes over you.
