Question:	The present state of items lasting forever affects the value of items and game play greatly as time passes. New players aren't playing the same game as those that started a year ago because of considerably better equipment being readily available. I think many new dimensions to the game would be added, e.g., revisiting places to refresh one's items' quality, quests to extend the life of items, etc.

Answer:	That would be an enormous change to gameplay and game balance, and one that almost no player would really enjoy. That's not the sort of thing you add after the game is started. Wait for a sequel.
