How is net speed and framerate related?

Asked: 2000.12.04
Name: Net speed Vs. framerate
Question Title: How is net speed and framerate related?
Category: Graphics
Question: What can users do to maintain /framerate when there is 1. too much net traffic or 2. poor connection speed?

Shouldn't /framerate be independent of net speed (not the same as local object density)?

Observations:
/framerate drops due to net lag i.e. sanctuary assaults or other monster/player pileups.

Will reducing /render radius help? Can we adjust/improve our network settings? i.e. packet size, etc.

- optional extra-credit frustration part -
What the heck is AC doing that it can't render more than a fame a second?

Answer: Your frame rate has nothing to do with your net connection. I'll repeat, your frame rate has nothing to do with your net connection. Even if your completely disconnected from the internet, the client will continue to render the scene as fast as your computer can until it realizes it's not connected anymore and exits.

If your frame rate is slowing down, it's usualy due to too many polygons, objects, or textures on the screen at one time. Reducing your graphics options, screen resolution, or render radius can all help.
