Question:	My friends list is made up of several entries of the same person, it would be alot easier to have just one entry per friend

Answer:	I had that same idea -- but no, the friends list doesn't have access to characters' account names; it would have to be redesigned to add this ability. It's technically possible, but not a quick-fix...
