Question Title:
Category: Backstory
Question: In the history for the Drudges listed in the Zone's beastiary, we get the following tid-bit of information about the Drudges:
When the Great Egg of the sun arose again, these wretched creatures would mewl in pain at its light, and flee. Blinking their great, sensitive eyes, they would scurry back into crowded caverns, dragging behind all the spoils they could grasp in their pale claws.

And yet, on Dereth we find them out in broad daylight all the time. What's happened to change this?

  • Did the Virindi change the entire stock of the Drudge race early in their coming to Dereth?
  • Do they no longer care, having been blinded? (this would explain some of the tactics they use in trying to run up and attack people)
  • Did the rumour monger William of Windows seed our scholars with dissinformation?

Is it possible we'll see monsters responding to time of day and other circumstances in the future?

Answer: Honestly, because we don't have the technology to alter spawns based on time of day. Better to have them wandering around blindly than not at all.

You could assume that here in Dereth, there are more drudges than there is underground living space for them. Remember that they only live where there aren't more powerful creatures to drive them out.

Maybe ACEDL should start a campaign to decrease the surplus population of Drudges. You know, to prevent starvation, prevent little baby drudges from growing up blind, and reduce competetion with native species. ^_^
