Overview

Quest to destroy a replica of the powerful Soul Crystal that was once found in the Shendolain Chamber.

Walkthrough & Notes

Notes:

  • It is strongly recommended to have at least one other player to operate the levers at the top of the dungeon, which open doors throughout the way down to the bottom. The doors only stay open for 60 seconds.
  • Lockpick is required inside the Shendolain Chamber.
  • Each player that wants a reward must have a Shendolain Key. These keys are not attuned/bonded so anyone can obtain them ahead of time and distribute them to the group.
  • There are two entrances to the Shendolain Vestibule. One is on the Obsidian Plains, and the other is on the southwestern shores of the Inner Sea. The Obsidian Plains entrance will be more difficult to reach but a quick route, while the Inner Sea entrance will be less difficult to reach but take longer.

Part 1: Preparation & Reaching the Dungeon

  1. Obtain enough Shendolain Keys for everyone that wants to complete the quest.
  2. Head to the Shendolain Vestibule. There are two entrances to the dungeon. The original entrance is at 53.8S, 59.6W on the Obsidian Plains. The secondary entrance is at 61.3S, 39.5W on the southwestern shores of the Inner Sea.
    • Route to original location: Danby's Outpost to Desert March at 22.6N, 28.8W. Take the Black Hill portal inside. From the destination, run to the vestibule.
    • Route to duplicate location: Facility Hub to Folthid Estate, run east-southeast to Imuth Maer Doquin at 11.6S, 57.9E. From there, take the shortcut portal to Halls of Metos (Wai Jhou). Take the surface portal then head northwest, staying on the current plateau level. Turn north, then northeast. When you reach the point of the plateau (approx. 58.4S, 43.8W) you can either keep hugging the wall of the upper level, or you can jump down to the shoreline. If you want to avoid jumping down, there is a hill where you can descend at 61.0S, 43.5W. Either way, once you are on the shore, hug the coast and head generally southeast until you reach the dungeon entrance.
    • Tip: If leading for a larger group, one character can tie to the surface portal of the Shendolain Vestibule, then summon it for the group.

Part 2: Shendolain Vestibule

  1. Once inside, make your way to the lever room. From the drop, head forward (south), then turn right (west). Follow this hall down a ramp, accross a bridge, around a bend, and down another ramp. When you reach a split, continue forward (south). The dungeon is symmetrical, so you will head up a ramp, around a bend, across a bridge, and up another ramp. When you reach the top of the ramp, turn right (south) to reach the lever room.
  2. Split the party into two groups: One group to make their way to the Shendolain Gate, the other group to operate the levers. The lever room and adjoining hallway have undead/skeleton spawns, so the person/people left behind to use the levers must be capable in combat.
  3. Proceed down into the dungeon. Refer to the map for one possible route down.
    • Note: At each set of doors, one of the doors will not have a corresponding lever in the lever room. On the map, these doors are: D4, D5, D10, and D– (D15).
  4. When you reach the bottom, use the Shendolain Key on the Shendolain Gate to receive a Shendolain Portal Gem. This is a teleporting gem, not a portal summoning gem, so each player will need one.

If the lever operator(s) want a reward as well, you will need to swap positions and repeat this part for them.

Part 3: Shendolain Chamber

  1. Use your Shendolain Portal Gem to be teleported into the Shendolain Chamber. This dungeon is also fairly symmetrical, with multiple paths leading to the end.
  2. From the drop, jump into the pit.
  3. Enter the hallway to the north, then take a left (west), an immediate right (north), and once down the ramp head forward (east). A short ways down the hall you will reach a locked door (resistance: 322). Pick the door and pull both levers.
  4. Exit the lever room at to the north, where you entered. Make your way back up the hall. At the split you previously ignored, turn left (south).
  5. Optional: You will run into Elleina of Berkesh. You can choose to kill her and loot the Petulantly Written Note (1 drops). There is no reward for this untranslated lore text.
  6. At the intersection with Elleina, immediately turn right (west) at the next split, go forward (west) then immediately turn right (north). Follow this down and around and you will reach the one of the doors activated by the levers you pulled.
  7. Proceed through the door. At the split, go forward (south). There is a Mana Blight trap at the bend before the ramp. Jump over to avoid or be prepared to recover your mana. Head down the ramp and you will reach the chamber of the Shendolain Crystal.
  8. Kill the Shendolain Crystal and loot the Shendolain Gem. It drops 5 crystals in total.

Part 4: Rewards

  1. Head to Al-Arqas. The reward NPCs are found on the upper balcony of the jeweler's shop House of Treasure.
  2. Hand the crystal to the NPC that corresponds to the reward you want:
  3. If you want a crossbow instead, obtain a Crossbow Stock from Barnar the Tinker and attach it to the bow to create the Shendolain Crystal Crossbow.
  4. If you want an atlatl instead, give the bow back to Gersan the Sureshot Shendolain Crystal Atlatl.

The bow will be so powerful, in fact, that normal ammunition will not work on it. You will have to come to me for arrowheads as well. If you have one my old missile weapons, I will improve it for you."

Gersan the Sureshot tells you, "I am not a crossbow maker, however, so if you need a crossbow you will have to attach a stock to the bow yourself."

Gervena the Oblique tells you, "I have heard of powerful gems, more powerful than the mediocre gems you bring to those so-called master smiths. If I had such a gem, I could make a powerful spell-casting orb with unique properties."
