Reawakening

Although the Ancient Olthoi Queen has been driven from Dereth, there is much left unresolved.

Look for a new part each weekday until Wednesday December 24.

Part One
Lightning parted the clouds and a crack of thunder caused the room to shudder. Antius looked to Borelean. The boy was unfazed; he sat, staring into the fire, with the same look he had worn for over a month.

Part Two
She paced at the edge of the room, running a hand along the wall as she walked back and forth. She had eaten well for the third day in a row, and Antius was beginning to see the strength returning to her.

Part Three
Vines of iridescent azure energy arc through roiling violet clouds; within the tumult, time ceases. There is energy, and nothing more.

Part Four
"They are three tribes—grown to five. We are two," Niarltah said. "Despite our prowess, despite our knowledge and despite the arms we bear, we are losing this war. We must…regroup. We must also find an ally."

Part Five
A whistling noise crept under the door, startling her into dropping her quill. She cursed herself in the Milantan tongue and pushed the parchment away. Her ordeal had left her shaken, old, and weak. These were not qualities that Nuhmudira prized.

Part Six
The Consul, Kaedrix, stretched its mind outward and brought swinging scythes along the coarse black stone that served as the connecting tunnel from the most complex of Aerbax's laboratories. Ahead of him he heard the unholy screams of the latest creations and felt the air grow chill.

Part Seven
"You failed." Nuhmudira sat calmly in her chair. Three nights had left her feeling healthier and sure of herself. The voices were quieter, more manageable, all but gone. Oswald, on the other hand, was a petty thing.

Part Eight
Hendac and Jenavere arrived at the castle an hour after the summons. They had expected the news to be grim, as the last time they had seen Elysa she was feverish and breathing too shallowly to last for much longer. Yet the letter they had received was signed in her hand and sealed with her seal. They hoped, beyond hope, that she was awake.

Part Nine
Nuhmudira was the last to arrive. She walked into the meeting hall and sat opposite Celdiseth who met her gaze without fear. Elysa waited for the room to settle and then called the room to order.
