Overview
- A key element to this quest is not aggrevating the Blinded Apparitions to attack. They respawn very quickly and hit for high cold damage. Using a good shield, a melee defense rare, or a frost protection rare are all good strategies if an apparition comes after you.
- It is possible to solo this quest without rares if you can avoid aggrevating the apparitions.
- The Oubliette is a gauntlet of dungeons, with each one connecting to the next. Some of these require characters to collect items to proceed. It may be restricting to bring a large group as you will have to wait for respawns to get enough items.
- Prerequisites
- You must have completed the Guardians of Mhoire Castle and Castle of Lord Mhoire Quests.
Walkthrough & Notes
- Enter the the northeast tower of Mhoire Castle and speak to the Shade of Terelev.
- Enter the Mhoire Castle Great Hall portal, run down past the Ancient Throne.
- Keep north until you find the portal to the Oubliette of Mhoire Castle.
- The portal to the Oubliette is located on the path which leads to the legendary armor chests, which is the northern middle room on the map.
- Note: The Oubliette dungeons are not loggable. You will end up at the lifestone if you logout.
- Collect 10 Mhoire Oubliette Portal Glyphs by killing any monsters inside the dungeon. Some enemies drop more than 1 per kill.
- Optional: While collecting glyphs, you can also collect 20 Red Veined Grubs for the Red Veined Grub Collection Task (side quest).
- Note: You will need more of these glyphs later in the quest, but the portal will take all of them in your inventory when portaling, so you cannot stock up.
- Once you have 10 glyphs, work your way through the dungeon until you find the Deeper into the Oubliette portal.
- Note: If you do not have 10 glyphs in your possession, you will not be able to use the portal.
- The next dungeon has no enemies, only lightning traps. Run through the dungeon, evading the random Incantation of Lightning Bolts shooting toward you from the walls, until you find the Deeper into the Oubliette portal.
- Optional: Wear a weapon or shield with an aegis affect to absorb the damage if you get hit.
- Note: Getting hit is not an instant death as long as you are not lightning vulned. Be sure to dispel vulns before attempting.
- In the next stage, you will once again need to collect 10 Mhoire Oubliette Portal Glyphs by killing any monsters inside the dungeon.
- Once you have all 10, continue once again, to the Deeper into the Oubliette portal.
- In the next section there more enemies, but you do not have to collect glyphs to move to the next section. Make your way to the next portal and take it.
- Note: Beware of the Blinded Apparitions, they are hollow and can kill you easily. If you don't run into them, they will not attack. The apparitions first appear in this section.
- In next dungeon, you must again collect 10 Mhoire Oubliette Portal Glyphs by killing any monsters inside the dungeon and use the portal to get to the next stage.
- In the next stage, you will find a maze of hallways, including a series of jumps going both up and down. It's mostly linear, so follow it through until you reach another portal.
- Lockpick Bonus: There is a Chorizite Chest along the way in this section.
- Note: When jumping up, use a full shift jump.
- In the final stage, work your way through a mostly linear dungeon, with jumps going both up and down until you reach a large room where the boss, Hovoros the Shadowed resides. He is there along with several Wight Blade Sorcerers and Blinded Apparitions who walk around the room.
- Kill Hovoros and loot a Corrupted Spectral Page from his corpse (drops 8). He respawns fairly quickly, so don't waste any time.
- Note: Hovoros will occasionally drop a Blackened House Mhoire Cloak (rare drop).
- Return to the Northeast tower of Mhoire Castle and speak to the Shade of Terelev for your reward.
- Note: There is currently no exit portal from the Oubliette, so you must recall back to Graveyard and then return to Mhoire Castle from there for rewards.
- Head back into the Mhoire Castle Great Hall and proceed beyond the throne room again to the treasure rooms with Legendary Chests. Note that the chests are divided by type into 3 separate rooms.
Tips
- The Blinded Apparitions only aggro when provoked in this dungeon. So the key element during the boss fight is to avoid them.
- It is advised not to use weapons or items that proc with ring spells (i.e. Replica BloodScorch and/or Great BloodScorch), as they will agro the apparitions.
- If you accidentally make the apparitions go agro and you are alone you can run back to the last jump, leap up one level and wait on the ledge until they ignore you and then you can try again.
- Killing apparitions is redundant as they respawn rather quickly. If you do decide to kill apparitions, a good shield prevents a lot of damage.
- The Wight Blade Sorcerers respawn fairly quickly during the fight. It is worth clearing them, but they do not stay gone for too long.
- Horvoros uses Void Magic, so be ready for bleed damage and void blasts.
- If you have a high Summoning skill, you can send high level summons into the final room to fight for you. This can help to avoid aggrevating the apparitions.

- Shade of Terelev tells you, "Though many ghosts and undead trapped in Castle Mhoire have been purified and freed, the corruption laid on this place by Rytheran seeks to more firmly root itself in our midst."
- Shade of Terelev tells you, "In ancient days the House was betrayed by one of our strongest Archmages, Hovoros, who succumbed to Rytheran's temptation of power. Although the corruption that empowered him prevented him from truly being slain, he was thrown into the deepest chambers of the Oubliette of House Mhoire."
- Shade of Terelev tells you, "Now the corruption manifests within him, taking the form of a spectral page of magical text. He is using the corruption of this page to torment and tempt spirits here. I ask that you travel into the Oubliette, destroy Hovoros, and bring me one of these pages so I might purify it."
- Shade of Terelev tells you, "Search for the entrance to the Oubliette behind the throne room and down into the lowest catacombs under the castle."

We could not approach the Oubliette for fear of madness, but the plans of the traitorous Hovoros have been foiled thanks to your heroic efforts! Let me reward you."
