Friend Ahyara,
I have spent many years traveling across the great Sho Nation of Dereth, listening to the elders of our cities and villages speak of our first days on this new world. I have consolidated all the stories of the Green Mire Warrior together in this tome, so history will not forget this figure.
The Green Mire Warrior was a legendary hero from the early days of the Sho nation on Dereth. He stood amongst the likes of Ben Ten and Mi Krau-Li, and helped the Sho people establish ourselves here.
We know little of the man himself - even his name is now lost to time. What is known is that he was a ronin; a warrior that served no master. Or perhaps more aptly, he was a warrior that served any master - for the right price.
In the earliest days our first settlement of Hebian-To was little more than a fledgling village of simple huts built in a clearing. Our people needed protection from the creatures fleeing Aluvian expansion in the north. When the call went out for defenders to secure an abandoned Empyrean fortress, the Green Mire Warrior was said to be the first to volunteer. After fort Aimaru was established, he was stationed there until Hebian-To was no longer under threat from the north.
After Hebian-To's safety had been tenuously established, the Green Mire Warrior answered the call of the warlord Ijiku Tambai, and made his way to the fortress Yaosai northwest of Hebian-To. From there he continued to defend his young nation. Mosswarts raided from the Blackmire swamp to the northwest. Outlaws and thieves preyed on travellers leaving Hebian-To. Lugian scouts were even known to travel as far north as Yaosai on occasion. All of these enemies and more were bested by the Green Mire Warrior.
Our knowledge of his deeds only survives to this day due to the fact that ever since those first days in Hebian-To, the Green Mire Warrior wore his distinctive yoroi armor and wielded his signature yari, all the color of polished jade.
Some say his armor was that of a warrior from the Ryu Jou Gai, the Order of the Dragon Temple, and its vibrant green color was meant to evoke the image of the Dragon of Power himself. The people who say this believe that he must have been sent here on a divine mission from the Ryu Jou Gai to protect the Sho people in this new world.
Others say his armor was that of a lord of the Ryu Jou Gai, and the Green Mire Warrior dishonorably killed the lord and stole his weapons and armor. The people that tell this story were members of the Chiran Jishui Dan, bitter rivals of the Ryu Jou Gai.
They claim no bias against their rival, and say that those that serve the Ryu Jou Gai are men and women of honor. Surely, they say, an honorable warrior would not resort to being a blade for hire.
And still others make the remarkable claim that the Green Mire Warrior was the embodiment of the Dragon's power here on Dereth, sent here by Ryu himself to protect our people when power above all else was needed most. And when the men and women of our land had risen as capable defenders, the Dragon's power was no longer needed.
And so, they say, the Green Mire Warrior ventured into the place that would become his grave, and the Dragon's spirit left and was carried back on the Great Winds to the Sho Empire of our ancestal world.
The Green Mire Warrior's equipment was as legendary as the man himself.
His cuirass, as many know, protected him from the harsh elements of the swamps, and allowed him to endure more in battle.
His sleeves gave him strength, and allowed him to withstand crushing blows a raiding Lugian's rock.
His leggings allowed him to move quickly, and survive the swipes from a thief's yaoji.
His boots protected him from the bite of a gromnie and the sting of a wasp, while enveloping him in a magical layer of armor.
His gauntlets helped him to be more nimble and dexterous, and allowed him to quickly apply bandages to his wounds.
His helmet sharpened and focused his mind, and allowed him to resist the magical assaults of the mosswart shamans.
His shield helped him to deflect shoukens, while also allowing him to more skillfully use the shield.
And while you are probably familiar with his yari, legend has it that he also wielded an even larger magari yari, that required both hands to use.
