A global announcement, commonly abbreviated as a global, is a message displayed in the chat interface of all players currently logged into a specific server. These announcements are automated as part of certain quests and are also used by Turbine staff during live events and for other special announcements.

Usage in Quests

In quests, globals are used for multiple purposes. Some quests use globals to announce when certain conditions have been met, thus activating a quest to be eligible for completion (Saving Asheron, Aerbax's Prodigal Olthoi). The majority of globals are related to the completion of certain quests and are directly tied to the death of a boss enemy. These globals often include the name of the player who inflicted the most damage to the boss and are often sought after for personal recognition and prestige.

Usage by Turbine

During live events, Turbine often uses globals to announce that an event has started or is about to start. This announcement will often include details or clues about where the event is occurring. Turbine has also used globals to make server-wide announcements for other reasons, such as a server needing to be rebooted or to announce bonus experience rewards being activated for a short time.
