Question:	If a mage were to use an Xbow (untrained) to kill a monster, what would happen to the points that would normally go into that skill? Would they become "Unassigned XP" or would they be lost entirely?

Answer:	You don't generate proficiency points from using untrained skills. So yes, the theoretical XP that would be generated if the skill was trained are being lost.
